Krzysztof Meisinger
Guitarist Krzysztof Meisinger has played music ranging from Vivaldi to Astor Piazzolla during an international performing and recording career. His efforts extend beyond performing into artistic direction and music festival management.
Meisinger was born in Głogów in western Poland on August 3, 1984. He studied with various teachers, helped along the way by scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture and the mayor's office of the city of Bydgoszcz, among others. Key players and teachers who exerted an influence on his playing were Christopher Parkening and Aniello Desiderio. International competition prizes launched his performing career, and he appeared with the PKF-Prague Philharmonia, the Sinfonia Varsovia, and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, among other ensembles. His recital career has been even more wide-ranging, taking him from Polish venues to the Philharmonie in Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, several prominent Japanese venues, and the Raitt Recital Hall in Malibu, California. He has commissioned a number of new works for the guitar, including Dmitriy Varelas' Concerti Grossi. Meisinger is also a frequent guest at festivals such as the Music in Old Krakow Festival, the National Philharmonic Festival in Warsaw, and La Folle Journée de Varsovie.
Meisinger is an enthusiastic chamber player who has frequently collaborated with soprano Sumi Jo and with the Philharmonia Quartett Berlin. He has released ten albums, both solo and ensemble, and his 2013 release, Melodia Sentimental, on the Fuga Libera label, was named one of the ten best of the year by a German critics' organization. The following year, Meisinger served as the artistic director for a production of Astor Piazzolla's "tango operita" María de Buenos Aires at the Polish Theatre in Szczecin. In 2017, he founded the Meisinger Music Festival in that city; it has attracted top-caliber musicians, including Ivo Pogorelich, Mariza, and Piotr Anderszewski. Meisinger returned to recordings in 2021 with the virtuoso solo album Elogio de la Guitarra on the Chandos label.
