Ego Kill Talent
Deriving their moniker from the adage "too much ego will kill your talent," Brazil's Ego Kill Talent emerged in 2014 with a sound that combines heavy modern rock and pop with considerable instrumental prowess -- they are known for nimbly swapping instruments mid-performance. They found international success in 2017 with the release of their eponymous debut album, which they supported by landing high-profile slots alongside hard rock luminaries like System of a Down, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Metallica. 2021's "The Call" became a mainstream rock hit and appeared on the band's sophomore effort, The Dance Between Extremes. In 2023, the group issued the EP Call Us by Her Name, which marked the debut outing for new vocalist Emmily Barreto.
Founded in Sao Paulo in 2014, the band coalesced around a lineup with ties to Udora, Sepultura, Reação em Cadeia, and Sayowa, consisting of vocalist Jonathan Correa, bassist/guitarist Theo Van Der Loo, bassist/guitarist Niper Boaventura, drummer/bassist Raphael Miranda, and guitarist/drummer Jean Dolabella. They issued their debut single, "Sublimated," the following year, and earned a slot at Lollapalooza Brazil, which helped land them a deal with BMG. Ego Kill Talent released their self-titled debut in 2017 and expanded their audience via supporting slots for System of a Down and Within Temptation and festival appearances at Rock in Rio, Download Madrid, Rock Am Ring, and Nova Rock. In 2018, they took their notorious live show to the United States and began laying down the groundwork for their sophomore effort, which was recorded at Dave Grohl's Studio 606. Fans got their first taste of the new material in early 2020 with the arrival of the singles "Now!" and "Lifeporn." The band headed to Foo Fighters' 606 Studios to construct their sophomore effort. Released in 2021, The Dance Between Extremes included the mainstream rock hit "The Call" and featured guest spots from John Dolmayan (System of a Down), Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour), and skateboarder Bob Burnquist. Vocalist Jonathan Correa left the fold the following year and was replaced by Emmily Barreto, who made her studio debut on the 2023 EP Call Us by Her Name.
