Dharan Kumar

Dharan Kumar – born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on October 8, 1983 – is a film composer best known for his work in the Tamil film industry (also known as Kollywood). After attending school in Chennai, he began working as an assistant to composer Harris Jayaraj in several of his films. Dharan Kumar composed the score for his first film, Parijatham, which was released in 2006. The soundtrack was a success and featured “Unnai Kandaene,” which became one of the Top 10 most popular songs of the year. He continued to build a strong resume composing music for films such as Sivi (2007), Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008), and three films in 2009: Laadam, Naan Aval Adhu, and Siddu +2. Also in 2009, Dharan Kumar wrote and produced the non-film single “Sing One More Time,” a tribute to Michael Jackson. He also ventured outside of Kollywood by composing advertising jingles and music for sports events. His work in Kollywood also includes soundtracks for the films Thambikku Indha Ooru (2010), Podaa Podi (2012), Samar (2013), Aaha Kalyanam (2014), Kadhal Kasakuthaiya (2017), Puppy (2019), Naduvan (2021), and Pistha (2022). Some of his best-known compositions include “Poove Poove” (from 2010’s Siddu +2), “Idhu Varai Naan” (from 2019’s Zhagaram), and “Edho Solla” (from 2021’s Murungakkai Chips).
