Houari Dauphin

Algerian raï singer Houari Dauphin (real name Siouani) was born on May 10, 1971 in Oran, and grew up with his grandmother in the north-west of the country. He was only fifteen when he began singing in restaurants and at parties, and eventually enrolled at the Oran Conservatory to perfect his skills. Gradually, his reputation grew, and he became one of the most sought-after performers at local wedding parties. He chose his nickname Houari Dauphin after a residency at a discotheque called "Le Dauphin Rose" in 1996, and went on to open his record collection, which grew steadily to include dozens of albums. His best-known titles include "Kif ray ihabalni" and "Mamamiya " (1997), "Wili wili ma daret fiya chira" (1999), "Nekri l'oumri fe Sheraton" (2001), "Chal nebghi n'qalach aâmri" (2002) and "Je pense à toi" (2004). Several compilations review his career at various points, including Best of Houari Dauphin in 2013 and Very Best of Houari Dauphin in 2015.
