Wagner’s Walküre was Furtwängler’s legacy, the last recording he completed before passing away in 1954 and the conductor is surrounded by an amazing cast of vocal soloists (Martha Mödl, Leonie Rysanek, Gottlob Frick, Ferdinand Frantz…). This album, which the conductor couldn’t even hear the tapes, was probably meant as the opening album of the first complete studio Ring ever recorded with a consistent cast. © Warner Classics
