Let’s say it right now, just to get rid of this joke: Vacarme (‘racket’ in French) is gonna make some noise! But it’s a noise coming from the inside, deep down. String bodies are the only crafters of such a rustling. Twelve in total. Three times four. From violinists Christelle Lassort and Carla Pallone and from violoncellist Gaspar Claus. He’s the free spirit of his instrument, able to destabilize flamenco with his father Pedro Soler, to walk the paths of chamber pop with Sujan Stevens and most of all to exchange with people as diverse as Rone, Keiji Haino, Peter Von Poehl, Serge Teyssot-Gay (formerly from Noir Désir), Bryce Dessner from The National, singer Barbara Carlotti and a few dozens others…
Therefore, Vacarme is a peculiar string trio swimming in the ethers of contemporary music, post-rock and minimalist music. The recording of this first eponymous album happened in May 2016, in the rehearsal venue of Katia and Marielle Labèque, under the supervision of David Chalmin, who previously worked as a sound engineer with the famous sisters but also with Matt Elliott, Angélique Ionatos, Shannon Wright and even… Gaspar Claus himself. A dense musical matter has been recorded from improvisation games during these studio sessions. From this matter, forty minutes have been extracted and put onto this disc, offering a fascinating work improvised on rhythms, melodies and harmonies. Fans of the work of the minimalist, electronic and spectral composer Eliane Radigue, Lassort, Pallone and Claus invent a fascinating language of their own. It may sometimes seem dry but it will give you a glimpse into its inner beauty if you take the time to tame it. Because as everyone knows it, no pain, no gain © MZ/Qobuz
