The Olympics' 1966 LP Something Old, Something New was an odd proposition. Side one was "old," featuring a half-dozen of their most popular singles from the late '50s and early '60s, including "Western Movies," "Hully Gully," "Big Boy Pete," "Shimmy Like Kate," and "The Bounce." Side two was "new," presenting a half-dozen recent recordings -- none of them particularly commercially successful -- with much more of an updated mid-'60s contemporary sound. While these new recordings weren't bad, they weren't nearly as strong or distinctive as the more Coasters-styled early rock & roll on side one. So what you had was an LP that likely pleased few, as it was half a greatest-hits collection and half a record representative of where the Olympics were in 1966. Although the music is fairly strong, you're much better off finding it on a greatest-hits collection; Varese Sarabande's Very Best of the Olympics, for instance, has nine of the 12 tracks.
