Orfeo Orchestra: 18th Century French Baroque, Resurrected

Orfeo Orchestra (conducted by György Vashegyi), a prolific performer of French baroque music since its birth, has been honoured in recent years by both Palazetto Bru Zane and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) with invitations to record a series of explorations of French lyrical music – both baroque and classical.

Women Composers: A Secret History

From Sappho of Mytilene to Kaija Saariaho, music history has been marked by female figures who “dared” to write music. Is creation a male privilege? Our sound museum does hold more well-known and recognised male than female composers. Below, you’ll find a defence and illustration of female composition works through eleven musical portraits.

Mason Bates' weird and wonderful electronic symphonies

What do you mean, you haven’t heard about Mason Bates (yet)? He is one of the hottest names on the North-American music scene. Born in 1977, Bates is a symphonic and lyrical composer as well as an electro DJ (under the alias DJ Masonic) – two completely opposing genres which he takes great delight in mixing. The majority of these sounds are “every day sounds”, which are prerecorded and later put into a score. On the release date of his brilliant opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, Qobuz interviewed this extraordinary person.
