Wie zich terugtrekt uit de schijnwerpers, doet dat meestal niet zo gematigd als op het derde album van Norah Jones, Not Too Late, maar zo'n understatement is gebruikelijk voor deze o zo rustige singer/songwriter. Not Too Late is misschien niet scherp of bevreemdend, maar het is inderdaad een bewuste stap weg van haar positie als gevestigde crooner in koffiehuizen en een stap in de richting van kunst met het oog op kunst. Een groot deel van het album klinkt als een schetsboek, waarin je ziet hoe Jones en Lee Alexander proberen te ontdekken hoe ze nu best verdergaan. Het schilderij dat ontstaat na de schets is daarbij niet het eindresultaat van die experimenten, maar het is een weergave van het proces dat ze doormaken. Door Not Too Late uit te brengen, maakt Jones duidelijk dat haar doel vooral artistiek is.
