While the previous two volumes in CPO's series of the harpsichord concertos of Johann Sebastian Bach explored the seven solo harpsichord concertos, the third volume is devoted to the concertos for two, three, and four harpsichords. This recording by Concerto Copenhagen features Trevor Pinnock, Marieke Spaans, and Marcus Mohlin as the keyboard soloists in BWV 1060-1064, and conductor and harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen joins them in BWV 1065. These works are thought to be reworkings of compositions Bach wrote for other instruments that are believed lost, with the exception of the Concerto in A minor, BWV 1065, which is an arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in B minor for four violins, RV 580. Also included is the Triple Concerto for flute, violin, and harpsichord in A minor, BWV 1044, which features flutist Katy Bircher and violinist Manfredo Kraemer. The recordings, made in Garnisons Kirke, Copenhagen between 2011 and 2013, have a pleasantly resonant ambience, though the details are quite crisp and clear, even when the textures are a bit dense with the four keyboards.
