Just a year after the release of his sophomore effort, Big Fish Theory, Long Beach emcee Vince Staples returned with his third official full-length, FM! While the album contains 11 tracks, only eight of those clock in at more than a minute, giving this EP-length set roughly the same runtime as 2016's Prima Donna. That briskness works in favor of FM!, resulting in an urgent, taut listen that leaves listeners wanting more. As the title suggests, FM! is presented in a throwback radio format, turning the dial from Staples' hard-hitting tunes to special entries by guests Earl Sweatshirt and Tyga. A slew of other famous friends also make appearances, including Ty Dolla $ign, Jay Rock, E-40, Kamaiyah, Kehlani, Buddy, and more. Yet, despite the impressive roster, FM! remains the Staples' show, his head-spinning flow and twisting wordplay making every track he touches a must-listen. Unsurprisingly, he hits the same themes that he's known for -- including black pride, street violence, "Norf"side repping, and partying -- all with characteristic bite and wit. Without the harsh drill production of Big Fish Theory, FM! is slightly more accessible -- as summer-breezy as Staples can get -- and hypnotizes as effortlessly as it menaces. "Relay," "Outside!" and "FUN!" are the highlights on an album of standouts, but in reality, every track is worthy of attention. Despite FM!'s brevity, Staples jams so much into every bar that it fully satiates, all while still managing to end so abruptly that it comes as a surprise. The electrifying thrill of FM! is a triumph for the rapper who remains at the top of his game.

Reggaeton in 10 Albums

A combination of Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop, Caribbean rhythms and Spanish wit, reggaeton has, since its birth in the early 90s, shaken the world of pop music time and time again. From DJ Playero’s first mixtapes to Daddy Yankee’s “Barrio Fino” and Don Chezina’s “Tra-Tra-Tra, Puerto Rican musicians and their Colombian counterparts in Medellin have done their utmost to take over the world. In the last decade, they have done just that thanks to artists such as Luis Fonsi, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny. Read on for 10 of the genre’s most important albums. Reggaeton won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

Run The Jewels: Stick it to the Man

As they neared their fortieth birthdays, Killer Mike (a black rapper from Atlanta with close links to OutKast) and El-P (a white Brooklyn b-boy and proponent of experimental rap) formed Run The Jewels, a rap supergroup which could easily have been yet another addition to a long list of hiphop misfires. But on the contrary, they are now an institution, a group that delights audiences and awakens consciences. Their new album RTJ4 is their most political and devastating. Let us take a look back at Killer Mike and El-P’s story.

DJ-Kicks: the Compilation that Redefined Electronic Music

"DJ-Kicks is the most important DJ mix series ever." It was Mixmag, the English reference magazine for electronic music that wrote it. It's hard to deny it: since 1995, the German label !K7 has been making flawless albums with more than 60 volumes by entrusting its mixes to leading artists. Pioneer of the genre at a time when this art form was not widely known, the label succeeded in introducing the mix outside of the clubs while popularising electronic music with the general public.
