Destroyed is geïnspireerd door de isolatie die komt met “het zijn van de enige persoon die wakker (of levend) is in een lege stad” in het midden van de nacht, en is niet enorm anders dan Moby’s vorige studioalbum, Wait For Me. Naast het feit dat het iets elektronischer georiënteerd is. Er is aanzienlijk minder gitaa te vinden op dit album in ruil voor prominenter aanwezige pulsatie, maar de aanpak en het effect zijn behoorlijk vergelijkbaar. Moby deelt de verantwoordelijkheid voor de zang met een handvol zangeressen wiens performances spookachtig en gesampled klinken, op serene wijze op zichzelf aangewezen, wanhopig maar resoluut. De producer compenseert dit met een aantal van strijkers beladen instrumentale tracks, en met een handvol neerslachtige nummers, “The Day” als aanvoerder, waarop hij een David Bowie circa Heroes tijdperk oproept, met een klein beetje Little Scary Monsters voor de goede orde.
