The zany soundtrack to Emir Kusturica's 1998 film also served to usher in a new sound for No Smoking. Although Kusturica hadn't yet rejoined the band and hadn't collaborated in the writing of these tracks, the diversity in style and mood (even in this unpolished form) would come to fruition on the group's upcoming release, Unza Unza Time. No Smoking vocalist Dr. Nelle Karajlic, violinist Dejan Sparavalo, and keyboardist Vojislav Aralica composed the score. Given the moody and inconsistent nature of many original soundtrack recordings, tracks can often be forgettable and homogenous. That's not the case with this collection. Quirky and memorable tunes are in abundance, such as the tongue-in-cheek "Daddy Don't Ever Die on a Friday" and "Long Vehicle." "Pitbull Terrier" made its debut on this recording, albeit in a dance remix form. It also appears on Unza Unza Time in a much more tenacious and alternative manner. Balkan as well as Andean folk musics are woven into this collection. Like the film it represents, this recording is totally unique and enjoyable.
