Pairing two family-friendly orchestral favorites, this recording of Prokofiev's Peter & the Wolf and the concert version of Howard Blake's The Snowman is narrated by Sir Ken Dodd with accompaniment by the Liverpool String Quartet (members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra). The Snowman highlight "Walking in the Air" features child soprano James Devlin. Dodd's involvement is a big draw here; not only are his readings lively and playful but improvisations were permitted. Released by Rubicon Classics in late 2018, the album was the English comedian and singer's final project; he passed in 2018 at the age of 90.
