Black Pudding is het eerste album van Mark Lanegan en multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood samen. De twee hebben al eerder samengewerkt. Zo was Garwood al te horen op Lanegans album Blues Funeral en toerde hij mee met een van Lanegans andere projecten, The Gutter Twins. Garwood is misschien bij het grote publiek minder bekend maar hij heeft met vele grote namen gewerkt, waaronder The Orb, Wire, Wooden Wand, Sir Richard Bishop, Josh T. Pearson en Kurt Vile. Wat we krijgen is een minimaal, ingetogen, donker album van voornamelijk akoestische aard met Lanegans kenmerkende doorleefde bariton stem en zijn geijkte American-Gothic teksten. Hoogtepunten zijn “Pentacostal” en “Death Rides A White Horse”.
