The weekends look a little different to Brett Young because he's growing older and getting a little bit slower, preferring to putter around at home instead of shutting down bars. It's a fitting sentiment for a singer who just turned 40, so no wonder he not only wrote a song about it, he wrote eight others with a similar subdued, sunny vibe. Young isn't afraid of stepping into sticky sentiment -- "Lady" offers a design for life for his newborn daughter, one that boils down to copying her mother's every move -- and even when he's telling an ex to "Leave Me Alone," he does it with a smile and a bubbly beat. That cheerfulness has mellowed from his earlier recordings but as this mini-LP was also produced by Dann Huff, Weekends Look a Little Different These Days sounds similar to what Young has sung before. Although he'll try on a new style or two, he's not one for fashion, he's happy cruising in the middle of the road singing songs to fellow contented travelers.

In your panoramas...
Ray Charles, a Stylist Under the Influence

A founding father of soul, whose career spanned half a century, Ray Charles cannot be reduced to a handful of famous hits. He is above all the master of the high-end musical crossover that makes an art of mixing genres, approaching one to better embrace the other. Ray Charles secularised gospel, enriched the blues, played jazz, sang country and approached rock'n'roll. Let's take a look back at his unique style based on the five listed here.

The Women of Nashville

It's not easy to elbow your way through the macho Music City scene, the birthplace of country music, when you're a woman. Over the years, some of them have nevertheless managed to shift lines and attitudes, like these ten pioneers and revolutionaries who have put – even stamped – their boots on Nashville's table.

The Pioneers of Rock’n’Roll

Rock’n’roll isn’t dead. But you can count the pioneers of the genre who are still alive on two fingers: Jerry Lee Lewis and Wanda Jackson. They’re 84 and 82. Lewis was a wild rocker signed with Sun Records who made history by igniting his instrument and transforming church music, country and boogie-woogie into wicked rock'n'roll. Jackson was a country singer who had a brilliant career alongside Elvis. Going from Little Richard to Chuck Berry, not forgetting Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly and Hank Williams, Qobuz pays tribute to the precursors of rock.
