As Guitar, the German musician Michael Luckner previously explored the eponymous instrument's many possibilities on 2002's SUNKISSED, which found his pensive musical meditations accompanied by washes of electronica. Dedicated to the Japanese capital, 2006's TOKYO is a minimalist delight, featuring Japanese singer Ayako Akashiba, who contributes to the filigree textures of the traditional koto and pipa, and an undercurrent of hip-hop rhythmic pulses to keep things contemporary.
