Ukrainian folk song is undoubtedly a unique phenomenon. No nation in history has such a large number of songs compared to those created by the Ukrainian people. UNESCO has compiled an impressive phono library of folk songs from around the world. The fund of Ukraine has about 15,500 songs, ranking first by a wide margin. Ukrainian-language folk music arose in the 9th century during the founding of Kyivan Rus, the authors of the lyrics of most of the songs are already forgotten. Many composers explored and arranged them over time, mainly for voice and piano, turning them into a song romance.

The program includes 15 songs: three romances by four composers and three folk songs. Each work accompanied the life of the artist in one way or another, so it has a special meaning for Lena Belkina. Many works of this album were recorded for the first time - and this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with Ukrainian music, to feel its character, temperament, melodic language and the influence of time on it.

The program is emotional and multifaceted and would not have sounded so authentic without the pianist Violina Petrychenko. The pianist promotes Ukrainian piano music worldwide, recording composers such as Kosenko, Revutskyi, Barvinskyi and other artists little known in the world. © solo musica
