Sequel to Memory Device in 2020, the title of this second Baba Ali album could easily have been an indirect reference to Calm Like A Bomb by Rage Against The Machine. It may yet be just that, but, above all, it is a transition from the avant-garde manifesto BLAST (published in 1914) that inspired the Anglo-American duo. "As soon as I saw the words 'Laugh Like A Bomb', I was immediately struck by how accurately they described how I was feeling touring and working non-stop just to get by,” explains one of the two friends. It was during a tour, during a sleepless night, that they came across this phrase which perfectly reflects the spirit of this record which borders a crest line between a certain hedonistic carelessness and a violent frenzy. Throughout this album, the duo injected a significant dose of feverish synths, ferocious guitars, and edgy drum beats with lyrics evocative of abandonment and desire, but also Klein blue! Laugh Like A Bomb also explores a sense of vulnerability on tracks that were composed and recorded less thoughtfully than instinctively – they coined the word “yarchism” to refer to their instinctive creative approach. This unclassifiable album was recorded "in a hurry" (as the saying goes) and was mixed by the great Ross Orton (Working Men's Club, Arctic Monkeys, Yard Act). ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
