Fans who have fallen for her powerful charm and weightless soul have been waiting impatiently for this first album. Charlotte Day Wilson's first two EPs (CDW in 2016 and Stone Woman in 2018) had laid the foundation for a minimalist kind of R & B, refined, with a dash of electro and folk, all carried by a mysterious and bewitching voice... And then the Toronto native really took off with her single Work (boosted by an Apple ad), and found herself embroiled in unmissable projects like Bubba with her compatriot Kaytranada, as well as a collaboration with the group BadBadNotGood. Her new album Alpha brings in this cult jazz-funk trio for I Can Only Whisper. The other much-hyped guest on the record is Syd of The Internet on Take Care Of You. But for all its groovy accoutrements, the real heart of this magnificent album lies in folk music which is no surprise as Charlotte Day Wilson has already declared her love for Joni Mitchell and Blue in particular, and we see shadows of Mitchell's work here. That 1971 masterpiece does not so much haunt Alpha as spur the young Canadian to open up about her own vulnerabilities. The soul'n'folk blend on Alpha confirms the writer's uniqueness and rare talent. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

The 10 Records that Made the French Touch

Twenty years ago, the French Touch invaded the clubs and radio stations all over the world, putting France high on the map of electronic music. Qobuz tells you the story of 10 records which have left their mark on this golden era of French producers.

James Brown's Golden Age

Between 1967 and 1974, the Godfather turned soul into funk. Flanked by the grooviest musicians of the day, James Brown orchestrated a soundtrack to changes in American society. And everyone jumped aboard the Sex Machine!

The British Blues Boom, Chronicle of a Revolution

If Joe Bonamassa has come back with British Blues Explosion, a year after the Rolling Stones’ Blue And Lonesome, it has cemented the fact that the British Blues Boom was more than just a trend. More than a simple musical trend, it was the interest of a younger generation for the great American blues idols that had been ignored in their country, which led to a real revolution, with three major agitators leading the charge, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, considered in the UK as the “Holy Trinity” of rock and guitar. If they were far from being the only musicians involved, it is through their respective careers that we have discovered that blues, far from being an outdated musical genre, is some kind of getaway to other musical areas and has allowed for endless innovations.
