He might be impressive with his sticks, but it’s with his voice that he takes the pot here. With All For One, Jamison Ross establishes himself as an exceptional soul man. The drummer was winner of the 2012 Thelonius Monk Jr. International Jazz competition, born in Florida and currently lives in New Orleans and he manages to sneak in every alley of Southern groove (jazz, soul, rhythm ’n’ blues, funk and most of all gospel) and doesn’t forget to salute the legacy of Allen Toussaint (A Mellow Good Time) while he’s at it. With his touring accomplices like pianist Chris Pattishall, guitarist Rick Lollar, bass player Barry Stephenson and organist Cory Irvin, Ross pens a disc respectful of a certain tradition. © CM/Qobuz
