Kicking off with metallic abandon, 6 maintains a melodic heaviness rare among all rock bands, not just pigeonholed "black rockers" like 24-7 Spyz. Songs like "Eyes Don't Lie" burn as Jimi Hazel's simplified guitar dirge keeps everything a little closer to the Black Sabbath and Metallica tip instead of the too-busy, confusing jazz/funk metal of prior releases. Unfortunately, this only holds up for the first seven cuts of 6, after which the group completely switches gears and slides into a soul and R&B mode that, while competent, has none of the originality and spark that is so evident within the group's metal material. Of course, this diversity is what makes 24-7 Spyz different (some would say special), but the two separate and distinct aural experiences of 6 are so disparate that it makes for an unfulfilling listen. Just because one can do something, doesn't necessarily mean one should. Making that distinction is an important ability that artists need to develop in order to maximize their talents. This is especially true if there is a huge qualitative difference within the spectrum of "can do" activities. 24-7 Spyz can and should rock. Despite their own persuasive abilities, 6 proves that they should consider leaving the soft R&B to the artists who specialize in it.
