The Left Outsides

A husband-and-wife duo based out of London, England, the Left Outsides' spectral blend of hazy British psych-folk and sepia-toned indie pop invokes names like Mike & Lal Waterson, Offa Rex, Nico, Richard Dawson, and Espers. Founded in 2007 by Mark Nicholas and Alison Cotton after the dissolution of psych-folk outfit the Eighteenth Day of May, the duo released a self-recorded CD-R and composed the soundtrack to the short film Stand & Deliver before issuing their first proper full-length, The Shape of Things to Come, in 2014. In addition to her work with the Left Outsides, Cotton's viola can be heard on recordings by Sonic Boom, Comet Gain, and Saloon & British Air Powers, the latter of whom would eventually become British Sea Power -- Martin Noble (British Sea Power) and Graham Sutton (Bark Psychosis) were brought in to help engineer and mix the duo's debut. In 2017, the group issued their sophomore effort, There Is a Place, via Cardinal Fuzz.
