Poor Clare Sisters Arundel

The Poor Clare Sisters of Arundel -- an order of nuns founded in the 13th century -- mix their plainchant with contemporary production, aided by compositional direction from James Morgan and Juliette Pochin. Wanting to share the healing qualities of their vocal harmonization, the sisters approached Decca. Label executives were excited at the prospect, and called in Morgan and Pochin to give a contemporary twist to the nun’s Latin hymns and medieval texts. The sisters hoped Light for the World, released in early 2020 and quite well-timed, given the Covid-19 pandemic, would help contemporary society combat stress and anxiety. The record was so well-received that it reached number one in the U.K. classical charts.
