Les Baronets

Les Baronets are a Quebec pop group founded in Montreal (Canada) in 1959, featuring René Angelil, Pierre Labelle and Jean Beaulne. In the late 1950s, the group took part in several competitions, including Billy Monro's discoveries on CKVL radio. In 1962, they released their first single, " Johanne ", an original composition that became their first hit on Quebec radio. The group went on to release several adaptations of rock hits, including " C'est fou mais c'est tout ", a cover of the Beatles' " Hold Me Tight ", " Twiste et chante ", a cover of the Isley Brothers' " Twist and Shout ", and " Est-ce que tu m'aimes? a cover of the Contours' " Do You Love Me ". In 1964, Les Baronets released their first album containing all their hits. In 1966, Jean Beaulne temporarily left the group, and it changed its name to Les Nouveaux Baronets. Three songs were released on 45 rpm during these few months: " Ce n'est qu'un au revoir ", inspired by the Four Tops' " Bye Bye Baby "; " Demain ", an adaptation of Les Fortunes with the title " Here It Comes Again "; and " Un Petit sous-marin jaune ", a cover of the Beatles' hit. In the spring of 1967, the band reverted to its original name with the return of Jean. In 1970, the trio became a duo with the official departure of Beaulne for other professional activities. René Angelil and Pierre Labelle became artist managers in the following months, leading to the group's split in 1972 just after their last single, " J'ai un side-line payant ".
