Gaby

Gaby is the stage name of Winston Alfaro Brown Jr., a Panamanian Reggae en Español and Reggaeton artist born on October 3, 1965, in Panama City's corregimiento of Río Abajo. His music career was inspired by his mother's job at a music store, where he first made contact with the vibrant sounds of Jamaican reggae and dancehall artists like Buju Banton, Red Dragon, and Yellowman. Gaby's early ventures in music were alongside his friend Orlando Lindsay, hosting parties and establishing a mobile disco, SOS. He later formed a local group, Sweet Edition, which released its self-titled debut album in 1987 featuring the original version of "El Meneaíto." Shortly after releasing a second LP titled Duro de Matar in 1989, the group's career was cut short by the United States' invasion of Panama. In 1990, Tamayo Records re-released "El Meneaíto" through Colombia's legendary Discos Fuentes label, achieving phenomenal success throughout South America and Hispanic communities in North America and placing Gaby on the global music map. Over the following years, he collaborated with Reggae en Español artists Jam & Suppose, Reggae Sam, and Renato on the group Las 4 Potencias Del Reggae, which scored a hit with a newly arranged version of "El Meneaíto" from their 1992 album, Indestructibles 100%. Despite a successful career, Gaby stepped away from the music scene in 1998 and moved to Germany for a fresh start, working as a personal trainer and later at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. In 2016, the Panama Urban Music Awards honored Gaby with a Lifetime Achievement Award, prompting a return from the iconic urban artist. Since then, Gaby has re-established himself in the music scene, releasing several new singles such as "Instinto Animal" (2017) and "Ella Quiere" (2018).
