Dexter Walker & Zion Movement

Chicago-based minister, singer, songwriter, and choir director Dexter Walker shepherded his fledgling Zion Movement Chorale from its early days working out of his parents' basement in 2003 to a beloved gospel powerhouse responsible for self-released albums like 2007's vibrant Move, its 2011 follow-up Move 2, and 2013's Greater Than Before, their debut for Entertainment One. During the course of their career, Dexter Walker & Zion Movement have shared the stage with many well-known contemporary gospel peers including Tye Tribbett, Albertina Walker & the Caravans, Chicago Mass Choir, VaShawn Mitchell, and more. Known for his ambitious arrangements and passionate, dynamic direction, Walker and his group returned in 2018 with the album Hope. Walker was raised on the South Side of Chicago and sang in youth church choirs before joining the Voices of Great Faith ministry in 1994. During his ten years as assistant director, he was involved in numerous outreach programs while also directed a several high school choirs. In 2003, he founded his own ministry and choir, Zion Movement, who made their first live recording two years later. Released in 2007, Move showcased Walker's skills as an arranger and director while also giving him an outlet for his original material. A follow-up album, Move 2: Bring the Choir Back, was released in 2011, expanding the group's reputation. After winning the Verizon Wireless National Choir contest in 2012, Walker and his group signed with Entertainment One subsidiary, Light Records, to release their third album, 2013's Greater Than Before, bringing them to a much wider audience and earning both a Stellar and a Dove nomination the following year. Walker & Zion Movement returned in 2018 with their fourth album, Hope.
