Le grand public ne le sait peut-être pas mais Torrence Hatch alias Boosie Badazz est une vraie légende du rap sudiste américain… Plusieurs mixtapes et quelques albums ont confirmé ce statut. Sa voix totalement unique a, elle aussi, pas mal aidé à la construction de cette légende au point que le bonhomme soit parfois qualifié de Tupac du Sud… A 32 ans passés et un casier judiciaire gonflé comme un air bag, Boosie Badazz refait surface avec ce sixième album studio, comme revigoré par quelques années passées derrière les barreaux loin des micros (son disque précédent, Incarcerated, était paru en 2010 alors qu’il croupissait dans une cellule du Louisiana State Penitentiary). Ici, le MC de Bâton-Rouge ne change pas son fusil d’épaule et reste bien ancré dans le gangsta rap moite propre à sa Louisiane natale mais il le fait avec une telle sincérité et une telle aisance qu’on le suit dans les bas-fonds de son âme comme ceux de son entourage. Avec quelques featurings cinq étoiles (T.I., Jeezy, Rick Ross, J. Cole, Young Thug et Chris Brown), Boosie Badazz lache des punchlines bien fatales et fait de son flow le vrai fil d’Ariane d’un rap de rue savamment maîtrisé. © MD/Qobuz
