Ce concert, donné en 2006 sur le chantier naval polonais où Lech Walesa et son mouvement Solidarnosk avaient lancé l’appel à la grève en 1980, célèbre l’esprit de la révolution. Il célèbre tout autant l’esprit de l’ancien groupe de Gilmour, Pink Floyd. Gilmour ouvre le concert en emmenant son groupe sur la trace de plusieurs chansons de l’album Dark Side of the Moon, grand classique de Pink Floyd, pour se lancer ensuite dans son album solo le plus récent, On an Island, dans sa totalité. En outre, Live in Gdansk finit sur un éloge involontaire au claviériste des Floyd, Richard Wright, venu rejoindre Gilmour à l’occasion et décédé avant la sortie du disque : celui-ci est sa dernière prestation enregistrée.
