Les membres de Nickelback ne sont pas célèbres pour leur perspicacité, mais dans "Burn It to the Ground", ils se livrent à un examen de conscience plutôt pertinent et juste à travers les feulements de Chad Kroeger qui déclare "we got no class, no taste" (nous n'avons aucune classe, aucun goût). Nickelback est un groupe à la fois hargneux et grossier qui se complaît dans son ignorance de toute notion de goût. Il ressort des riffs préhistoriques qui semblent presque raffinés à côté de ses paroles complètement idiotes. Mais la musique est plus engageante, particulièrement sur Dark Horse. Sur cet opus, le groupe collabore avec le producteur légendaire Robert "Mutt" Lange qui dynamise les rockeurs de Nickelback. Il apporte un peu de couleur à leurs ballades puissantes, et ajoute des touches de modernité avec des rythmes électroniques, qui avaient été bannis jusque là.
