Lorsqu’on est Paul McCartney (oui le vrai, celui des Beatles !), on est un peu l’orfèvre ultime en matière de pop songs… Et cet album des Wings qui déboule à Noël 1973, disque pourtant réalisé dans un certain chaos à Lagos au Nigéria, est l’une des plus belles collections de chansons que Macca ait jamais conçues de toute sa carrière. On a beau savoir que l’ex-Fab Four sait tout faire, il fait ici vraiment tout ! Ballade nostalgique et ensoleillée (Bluebird), symphonie plurielle (le morceau-titre Band On The Run), hymne rock’n’roll bien punchy (Jet), pastiche lennonien (Let Me Roll It pour répondre aux attaques de Lennon justement), effluves world (Mamunia), collage humoristique osé (Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me)), rien ne manque à l’appel de ce brillant album solo d’un McCartney au sommet de son art de grand mélodiste pop. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
