About Playlist

After the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989, one of the great surprises of western European music lovers was the discovery of the traditions of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Orchestras of gypsy virtuosos, overheated fanfares and nostalgic songs were unveiled in the films of Yugoslav director Emir Kusturica and the soundtracks of his countryman, former rocker Goran Bregovic. Then a wave of joyfully dizzying music came out of this territory, hitherto folded back on itself. The Romanian band Taraf de Haidouk and the Macedonians of Kocani Orkestar are the bridgeheads for many other musicians and the starting point for the rediscovery of a precious heritage: diva Maria Tanase (1913-1923) or the divine Dona Dumitru Siminică (1926-1979). 3 years later, these music are constantly renewed by tinting, here, electro (Shantel, DJ Click ...) or renamed, there, Turbo Folk or Manele (Florin Salam, Adi Valcea ...).
