Yung Baby Tate

Baby Tate aims to uplift and empower with candid songwriting and a dynamic, brightly colored mix of hip-hop, R&B, and pop. On a steady rise since the mid-2010s, the Georgia native first charted beside Saweetie with "Hey, Mickey!" (2016) and before the end of the decade released her debut album, Girls (2019), and was featured on what would become her first RIAA-certified gold single, "Stupid," headlined by Ashnikko. Contributions to the Grammy-nominated Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation and the fourth-season soundtrack of Insecure followed shortly thereafter. Tate's ascent has continued with a Warner Records deal that has led to the release of the Mani/Pedi mixtape (2022) and an EP entitled Sexploration: The Musical (2023). She appeared on another gold single, JID's "Surround Sound," between those two recordings. The daughter of musicians Dionne Farris and David Ryan Harris (the two co-wrote Farris' 1995 Top Ten pop hit "I Know"), Tate Farris was born in Atlanta and raised in nearby Decatur. Deeply involved with music as a youngster, she had sung in choirs, learned piano, and started making beats by age 13. She wasn't quite out of her teens in 2015 when, under the name Yung Baby Tate, she self-issued ROYGBIV, an EP of lean and understated R&B. Following the charting single "Hey, Mickey!" (based on Toni Basil's "Mickey") and Xmas EP in 2016, her next project arrived in 2018 in the form of Boys, a brash EP that showcased her budding rap skills. Tate experienced something of a breakthrough in 2019. She released Girls, her first album, with BbyMutha, Baby Rose, and Kari Faux among the featured guests. Additionally, she was featured on Ashnikko's "Stupid" (a track that earned its RIAA gold distinction three years later), appeared on the platinum Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation (nominated for Best Rap Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards), and scored multiple placements on the soundtrack for the fourth season of Insecure. Signed to Insecure creator and star Issa Rae's Raedio label, Tate continued in 2020 with a handful of singles and After the Rain, an EP boasting the Flo Milli collaboration "I Am." The next year, Yung Baby Tate shortened her name to Baby Tate, joined the cast of the tenth season of the reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, and struck a new deal with Warner Records. In 2022, she made another Dreamville connection, appearing on JID's "Surround Sound," which reached number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- Tate's first appearance on the pop chart -- followed by her own Mani/Pedi, a mixtape split between R&B- and rap-oriented material. Another EP, Sexploration: The Musical, followed in 2023, promoted with "Jersey," a feel-good homage to Jersey club music.
