The FAIM

Australia's the Faim make anthemic, guitar-driven pop/rock that builds upon the influence of bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. The Faim first garnered widespread attention with their 2018 EP, Summer Is a Curse, which featured the song "Saints and Sinners," co-written by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. The album's success paved the way for their 2019 full-length, State of Mind. Formed in 2014 in Perth, the Faim (French for "hunger") initially came together while bandmates Josh Raven (vocals), Stephen Beerkens (bass/keyboards), Michael Bono (guitar), and Sean Tighe (drums) were still in high school. Gigs soon followed and the band began posting demos online. The songs caught the attention of producer and Goldfinger-singer/guitarist John Feldmann, who brought the group to Los Angeles to develop their material. They eventually signed with BMG Rights Management and, in 2018, released their debut EP, Summer Is a Curse, featuring the title-track single co-written by Five Seconds of Summer's Ashton Irwin. Also included on the album was the song "Saints and Sinners," co-written by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. Around the same time, the Faim hit the road, touring alongside bands like Sleeping with Sirens, PVRIS, and Lower Than Atlantis. They also made appearances at Reading and Leeds Festival, The Great Escape, and Liverpool Sound City. By early 2019, lineup changes found Bono and Tighe having left the group, with guitarist Samuel Tye and drummer Linden Marissen coming on board. Reinvigorated, the group returned that same year with their full-length debut, State of Mind. Featuring production by Feldmann and Drew Fulk, the album found the group maturing and continuing to develop their emo-pop-infused sound. Following a tour with Stand Atlantic, they teased a sophomore album with tracks like 2021's "Ease My Mind" and 2022's "The Hills" and "ERA."
