Royal Coda

Employing a punishing and progressive blend of melody and might, Sacramento, California-based post-hardcore supergroup Royal Coda is the brainchild of three alt-rock heavyweights: vocalist Kurt Travis (Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds), guitarist Sergio Medina (Stolas, Sianvar, Eidola), and drummer Joseph Arrington (A Lot Like Birds, Sianvar). Founded in 2017, Royal Coda officially announced their formation in January 2018 with the release of the single "Anything to Save." Their eponymous debut full-length, which trafficked in elements of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and post-hardcore, arrived later that April on Blue Swan Records. The band conscripted Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Will Swan and touring bass guitarist Steffen Gotsch ahead of the release of their sophomore effort, 2019's Compassion. Touring in support of the album was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, so the group hunkered down and began sculpting their next record. The resulting To Only a Few at First arrived in 2022 and was preceded by the singles "We Slowly Lose Hope for Things to Come" and "Screen Time Overload."
