New Age - Released January 1, 1982 | Enso

Mike Rowland's 1982 new age classic Fairy Ring was recorded in Rowland's living room; it was high on innocence, shy on panache -- in short, a resounding success. Thirteen years later, Netherlands composer Henk Alkema arranged the essence of Rowland's themes for grand piano (played by Kate Williams) and the Sylvan String Orchestra with woodwinds, horns, and harp. In Alkema's hands, the music springs to life with the impressionistic colors of Debussy and the rhapsodic sweep of Rachmaninoff. This suite is not a repeat of Rowland's familiar themes, but a liberation of the nature in them. The treatment conjures up blossoming buds, water, and gently swirling winds. New Age - Released January 1, 1988 | Narada

This is the fourth release in the magical series by England's Mike Rowland, master of piano and synthesized string orchestration. Along with the idyllic, enchanting cover art, you're treated to another unfolding of Rowland's musical style, which is soothing, repetitious and engaging, perfect for massage or unwinding. His style has been often imitated; here's the man who first got it going with The Fairy Ring, and brought it forward with Solace and Silver Wings. © Backroads Music/Heartbeats /TiVo

New Age - Released January 1, 1992 | Enso

The Elfin Collection is a sampler of albums by Mike Rowland. His gentle piano melodies with light, though lush, synthesized string accompaniment are delicately romantic. The title track from Rowland's original 1989 classic, The Fairy Ring, begins the set; its on-the-spot inspiration recording shows weaknesses in the original recording quality, but the other tracks fair much better. All tracks have been remastered in 20-bit. Other albums sampled include Solace, Silver Wings, Tatania, The Brighter Side, and And So to Dream. A melody from Titania on track five is especially moving. © Carol Wright /TiVo

New Age - Released January 1, 1995 | Narada Productions, Inc.

Mike Rowland's 1985 new age classic Silver Wings is re-recorded here with fresh live orchestral arrangements by Netherlands composer Henk Alkema. Concert pianist Kate Williams and the Sylvan String Orchestra with woodwinds, horns, and harp can really liberate the life and sparkle from Rowland's work. Instead of just two musical colors, piano and strings, Rowland's compositions breathe with flutes, woodwinds, soaring French horns, luscious harps, and chimes. The harmonies are exquisitely sophisticated, and Williams' piano playing very sensitive. Compared to Rowland's own recordings, this recording is crystal clear and should not have you wondering if something is wrong with your stereo system. Rowland purists may like the innocence of his synth/piano albums, but there is something to be said for the combined artistic statement of real musicians. The fluttering of wings on "Listen to My Heart" absolutely shimmers. Lovely album. © Carol Wright /TiVo

Any new music from Mike Rowland is always an event, and The Brighter Side is no exception. Once again, Mike brings the gentleness and warmth that are the trademarks of his style. His recordings are among the best sellers in the entire New Age genre. © MusD /TiVo
