Marialy Pacheco
Marialy Pacheco – born in Havana, Cuba on January 4, 1983 – is a pianist, composer, singer and Cuban orchestra leader. Born into a musical family, she began piano studies at the Conservatorio Alejandro Garcia Caturla. When she was 15, she studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes before beginning three years of compositional studies at the Instituto Superior de Artes. She then resettled in Germany in 2004. Pacheco founded a trio with double bassist David Jehn and drummer/percussionist Edward Filipp. They recorded the albums Bendiciones (2005) and Destinos (2008) before she chose to expand her repertoire as a solo artist. She released the albums Mi Azul (2008), and Songs That I Love (2011). Marialy Pacheco won the Montreux Solo Piano Competition in 2012 - the first woman to win the prize in the competition’s 15 years history. That award was followed by the albums Tokyo Call and Spaces Within (2013), Introducing (2014), Todavia – Compositions by Ingo Höricht (2015) and Duets (2018), with guests Omar Sosa, Miguel Zenon, Max Mutzke, Hamilton de Holanda and Rhani Krija. In 2019, Pacheco released the live album Danzon Cubano. That same year, she also issued the intimate solo piano album Studio Konzert for Headphones.
