Jazz - Released May 24, 2019 | Jazz & People
For more than 20 years, Malik Mezzadri aka Magic Malik has not wandered around the jazz world like his colleagues. Even if improvisation has always been at the heart of his art, the flutist moves between jazz, funk, electro, fusion, world and even pop with impressive flexibility. With his Jazz Association, however, he decides to concentrate himself for the first time on an exclusively bop and post-bop jazz repertoire. With the trumpetist Olivier Laisney, the pianist Maxime Sanchez, double-bassist Damien Varaillon and drummer Stefano Lucchini, Magic Malik covers tracks by Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown and Thelonious Monk. Fortunately, nothing of course happens as predicted, and these world-renowned high standards take on a fresh flare when Malik is having fun with singing. Really quite magic. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
