Dizzy Eyes

Dizzy Eyes' brassy, brazen take on indie pop -- kissed with reverb, full of jangly guitars and big old pop hooks -- takes its cue from Black Tambourine, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and the 1960s (particularly from girl groups and bubblegum). Bassist/vocalist Marissa Johnson (No Kids, Weathered Pines), guitarist/vocalist Alejandro Constanzo (formerly of Los Malos), and drummer Jordan Gervais (Hawaiian Bibles) teamed up to form the group in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2010. Dizzy Eyes quickly landed a spot on Hardly Art's roster thanks to the popularity of their live performances. Mere months before the band's debut single on Hardly Art was scheduled to be released, Constanzo was forced to return to his native Mexico due to issues with his application for residency in Canada. The band went on hiatus, though Constanzo and Johnson continued to write songs with the help of Skype. Dizzy Eyes released their debut 7" single on that label, Let's Break Up the Band (a title that unfortunately proved to be all too fitting), in the spring of 2011. Things weren't quite over for Dizzy Eyes, though -- the group debuted a brand new single, Desert Gumdrop Kiss, via their Bandcamp site just as their Hardly Art release hit stores, and the band also made an appearance at that year's SXSW festival.
