Bensoul

Kenya soul singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bensoul wrote songs for other successful artists before making a name for himself with his own sweet, romantic blend of soulful R&B and Caribbean rhythms. He was the first to sign with Sol Generation Records, a label started by soul group Sauti Sol that released his singles and a 2020 EP entitled Qwarantunes. Bensoul was born Benson Mutua Muia and was writing songs in his high school days. He began working professionally as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, penning tunes for artists such as Mercy Masika and Kidum. In 2016, he collaborated with H_art the Band on the song "Masheesha," exposing his soulful vocals to thousands of new listeners. As his fame grew, he linked up with Sauti Sol, writing a song he thought would fit their electric live soul approach. The group signed Bensoul to their fledgling label Sol Generation Records in early 2019, releasing his single "Lucy" as the label's debut. Other singles followed and in 2020 Bensoul offered up the four-song EP Qwarantunes, a collection of songs written during quarantine for the COVID-19 pandemic.
