In 1811, Carl Maria von Weber got acquainted with Heinrich Baermann, the star clarinetist we mentioned earlier. This encounter was decisive as he was dedicated a Concertino that was so successful that two concertos were commissioned shortly after! These three works, absolute standards of the repertoire for clarinet and orchestra, are here performed by a true legend of his art, Belgian soloist Walter Boeykens. © Warner Classics

In your panoramas...
Nelson Freire, a Humble Virtuoso

A child prodigy in his native country, the Brazilian pianist who passed away in November 2021 kept his distance from the noisy fanfare of fame. His enormous hands and his natural and virtuoso technique always assisted his full, powerful and mellow sound. Here Qobuz looks back at the career of a musician that for a long time was the “best-kept secret in the world of the piano”.

Nils Frahm, an Atypical Piano Master

Hailed by critics of classical music as well as amateurs of the electronic genre, Nils Frahm’s talent has brought harmony between the two worlds for the last ten years. Whether he plays on a church organ or a synthesiser fitted with effect pedals, the German pianist is always looking forward, and that’s what makes him so appealing.

Steve Reich in 10 Works

Steve Reich belongs to that very small circle of composers who can claim to have changed the face of contemporary music over the last fifty years. Qobuz presents a selection of ten of the most important works from his catalogue.
