This release features nine instrumental, chamber music renditions of James Taylor classics. Performed on violin and viola, most of the pieces effectively capture Taylor's wide-eyed insouciance, even without his trademark vocal style. "Mexico," "Sweet Baby James," and "Going to California" are standouts, and the romantic jazz arrangement of "Mean Old Man" (from 2002's October Road) is a particular delight. The String Quartet Tribute to James Taylor is perfect for reading the Sunday papers on a lazy afternoon.
