At 22:51, Viza-Noir's full-length debut leaves fans hungry for more, but its brevity hardly detracts from its undeniable energy and raw power. Indeed, the self-titled Viza-Noir is a fast-paced joyride from start to finish, beginning with the sonic blast of "Lit Up" and closing with "Pool of Flame," an abbreviated epic that recalls Daydream Nation-era Sonic Youth. In between, the band shows off its chops with ragged rockers like "The Fisherman" and "Plastic Statuette" -- neither of which hint at the majestic beauty of "The Pelt Room," a luscious instrumental that highlights the trio's versatility and technical prowess. It's a shame, then, that Viza-Noir provides only a fleeting glimpse of the their potential, but it remains a very promising step in the life of a young, talented band.
