Tommy Roe burst onto AM radio in 1962 with what sounded like a lost Buddy Holly song, the solidly infectious "Sheila," and he followed that template for several silly but catchy hits through the 1960s, including "Sweet Pea," "Hooray for Hazel," "Dizzy," and "Jam Up and Jelly Tight." Although he seemed satisfied being a bubblegum star, Roe was capable of tight, clever songwriting when he felt like it. His "Everybody" is a wonderful song, with barely concealed R&B roots and an everyman lyric ("Everybody's had a lonely moment/Everybody's had the blues") that makes it his best song, and a true lost classic. This collection has everything that you need.
