Duff McKagan, historical bass player of Guns N' Roses, has never hidden his own personal musical sensibilities. When he released Believe in Me, his first solo album in 1993, Axl Rose's band was still in business. Other ventures followed in the form of Velvet Revolver (with Slash and Matt Sorum from Guns, Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots and Dave Kushner from Wasted Youth) and Loaded... Since then, the Seattle blond has tidied up his act. The booze and coke are nothing but old memories; he is now the father of two daughters and enrolled in business school in the early 2000s to eventually set up his company in asset management! Of course, rock'n'roll still runs in his veins, as this surprisingly calm solo album proves. Produced by Shooter Jennings, the younger son of the legendary Waylon, Tenderness looks more like an Americana record than a hard/metal/punk one. The ballads are in the majority, the pedal steel rings and Duff provides an ennui thanks to his melancholy voice. A nice rock'n'blues country road trip that gives off the air of a bar of friends and time passing by. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
