This 1978 debut from toaster Jah Thomas is a largely overlooked gem from one of Jamaica's most fruitful periods. Stop Yu Loafin' captures a woozy mixture of deejay toasts, roots rhythms, and understated dub production flourishes. The title track is based on the classic "Skylarking" riddim track, with Thomas rapping urgently over a particularly blissed-out dub mix of the original song. Much of the record follows the same formula throughout the album, with standouts being the lovers rock vibrations of "Send Me the Pillow" and "My Jamaican Girl" and the skeletal roots of "Bicycle Skank."
