Chloé Raunet is Choose Acronym Randomly. C.A.R. for the initiated. But her first musical life was in fact quite different. With the band Battant founded with Joel Dever, the Canadian artist cleverly mixed post-punk and new wave to create a tight rock style with highly efficient choruses. It rocked! I was nervous! Filled with uppercuts! Almost electro! And very 80s! But in September 2011, Dever committed suicide at only 25 years of age, essentially ending the Battant adventure… The C.A.R. project that Chloé Raunet is building on her own is much less violent. Slightly fresher and softer (but still as dark), as shown in 2014 with My Friend, on which she even playfully revisited Christophe’s La Petite fille du 3e…
Four years later, with Pinned, C.A.R. is moving towards a fascinating new wave and post-punk style, while maintaining its ambivalence between pop and cold wave. The voice of this activist from the Kill The DJ family plays with the codes of androgyny, her various keyboards and synthesisers set a mysterious atmosphere, and her enigmatic, beautiful and streamlined songs bring back ghosts of the 80s that are embedded in her DNA (Siouxsie, John Foxx, Kas Product, Kraftwerk…).
