Like many of their peers, the four members of Grizzly Bear have never departed from the rule of daring to blend disparate influences. With the quartet from Brooklyn, folk is often taken on a roller coaster, sometimes psychedelic, sometimes electronic—sometimes even jazz!—often on the ground of a polished pop, if not baroque. There’s some Beach Boys, some John Cale, some Sufjan Stevens and hundreds of other influences in the world of Grizzly Bear. A somewhat melancholic poetry emanates once again from Painted Ruins, which will be released during the summer of 2017. Produced by Chris Taylor (the band’s bassist), this fifth studio album is in line with its predecessors while offering songs probably more polished than usual, and, most of all, more rock. Its DNA is still indie but its packaging and finish feel a lot more pro. In the fifteen years since their creation, Grizzly Bear never showed such a complete mastery of their art. This art is created collectively, with Edward Droste, Daniel Rossen, Chris Taylor and Chris Bear really sharing the workload. © MD/Qobuz

In your panoramas...
Nick Cave: Bad Seed

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds remain one of the most prolific adventures of the post-punk era. Since the late 1980s, the vast magnetism of the Australian singer has swirled through violent paroxysms, fulminating covers, piano ballads and sweaty rock'n'roll. As the years went by, Cave became more and more of a crooner, part way between a punk Frank Sinatra and an austere Johnny Cash.

The Black Keys in 10 Songs

From 2001, The Black Keys have been reminding the world about the real roots of the Blues, cutting away all the frills and unnecessary solos. Their music has always been untamed, abrupt and minimalist. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney developed this unique style over the course of two decades, without once selling their souls to the devil at a Mississippi crossroads. Here are ten songs to prove it.

Britpop in 10 Albums

“If punk was about getting rid of hippies, then I'm getting rid of grunge.” It was with this sentence from Damon Albarn in 1993 that England invaded the stage previously dominated by Nirvana and Seattle grunge. Britpop is deeply linked to politics and local identity and emerged just as Tony Blair and New Labour were entering the scene. English romanticism was once again becoming attractive compared to the American identity, which was considered too hollow in the UK. Make way for “Cool Britannia”.
