Simon Green's debut single and subsequent Animal Magic album for Tru Thoughts drew the attention of such heavyweights as XL and Mute, though it was his eventual defection to Ninja Tune and the subsequent reissue of the long-player that brought him to the attention of the masses. This interim offering preempted his sophomore album for Ninja and sees his original label collate an album of his work as both a remixer and remixee, opening with his take of Stuart Cullen's sublime "Turtle," with Green wisely retaining its signature whistle while rounding off the beats a little and throwing in some gentle keyboard parts for more flavor. Thoughts compadres Quantic and Jon Kennedy get a look in, though it's Green's own work which receives the props; the inclusion of the singles "Dismantling Frank," "The Sicilian," "Magicman," and "Scuba" only reinforce a great album that works in its own right. ~ Kingsley Marshall

Fabric, A British Institution

Since 1999, Fabric has been the heart and soul of the British electronic scene. Its Fabric and FabricLive compilation CD’s are imperative to the lives of record sellers and quality music lovers, while the club thrills clubbers every weekend with a 5-star program. Let’s dive into the history of a British institution.

Nick Cave: Bad Seed

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds remain one of the most prolific adventures of the post-punk era. Since the late 1980s, the vast magnetism of the Australian singer has swirled through violent paroxysms, fulminating covers, piano ballads and sweaty rock'n'roll. As the years went by, Cave became more and more of a crooner, part way between a punk Frank Sinatra and an austere Johnny Cash.

Let’s Head for Cape Verde

Ever since the Portuguese annexed this collection of desert islands in the 15th century to make it a slave trade hub, the Black and Portuguese populations have mixed over time to give birth to a brand new language and brand new music—each island more or less developing its own style—, transforming the Cape Verdean dry lands into a bottomless talent pool.
