The album's concept is stated in its opening: the noise of an Internet connection is followed by a testimony of a humble boy, a percussionist of the streets of Northeast; follows a maracatu-heavy metal fusion "A ponte." Lenine is interested in building a "bridge" between us Brazilians and the rest of the universe - the choice of a real bridge in Recife where he began the homonymous tour was not at random. The fact is that he is not alone in that endeavor - since the Tropicália times, this obsessive idea is in the mind of every other Brazilian composer. The unanswered question remains: up to which point this frenetic search represents freedom, or mean submission? Leaving philosophy aside, the album is quite danceable and entertaining. Its highs are "Candeeiro encantado," "O dia em que faremos contato" and the hit "Hoje eu quero sair só." The nostalgic "Distantes demais" and "Aboio avoado" capture the attention for dispensing all percussion in favor of a poetic duo of violão/accordion and an alla capella rendition, respectively. "O marco marciano" brings the beautiful sonority of the Northeastern viola freed from the obsessive dancing beat. The ingenuous "Mote do navio" announces optimistically "a barca", the ship: in Lenine's mind, the people's redemption.

The Dark Side of the Moon: An Astronomical Success

Pink Floyd's ground-breaking album The Dark Side of the Moon was the result of a long creative process that began around 1968. A Saucerful of Secrets (the main track from the eponymous album) was, for Nick Mason at least, where it all began. Their next album Ummagumma (1969) gave each band member the opportunity to create a solo piece, though they would have to combine their talents if they wanted to hit the jackpot. Pink Floyd continued to search for the perfect record with Meddle, an album which highlighted their skills in the studio, and Atom Heart Mother, before they reached nirvana with The Dark Side of the Moon. And the album’s perfection hasn’t faded one bit.

Reggaeton in 10 Albums

A combination of Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop, Caribbean rhythms and Spanish wit, reggaeton has, since its birth in the early 90s, shaken the world of pop music time and time again. From DJ Playero’s first mixtapes to Daddy Yankee’s “Barrio Fino” and Don Chezina’s “Tra-Tra-Tra, Puerto Rican musicians and their Colombian counterparts in Medellin have done their utmost to take over the world. In the last decade, they have done just that thanks to artists such as Luis Fonsi, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny. Read on for 10 of the genre’s most important albums. Reggaeton won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

The Stylish Henry Mancini

Sophistication, humour, sensitivity… These are the words that often come to mind when describing Henry Mancini’s music. 23 years after his death, he is still seen as a major and influential pop composer. No doubt because, in addition to his glossy and light works for which he is renowned (notably Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Pink Panther), he also knew how to display the complexity of his musical language in more tormented compositions.
